# Inviting Members

> How to invite partners and family members to claim or join reports, what invitees experience, and how to handle invitation errors.

## Why Invitations Exist

When you purchase a Couples or Family Plan, the reports live in your account. Invitations are how you give each person access to their own profile — either by transferring the report to their account, or by adding them to the group.

Once someone claims their report, it's theirs. They can read it, download the PDF, and manage it independently from their own Numaura account.

***

## Two Kinds of Invitations

**Invite to Claim** — transfers the report to the invitee's account. Use this when the report belongs to them and they should own it. This is the right choice for a partner in a Couples Plan, or any family member who you want to have full personal access.

**Invite to Join** — adds the person to the group without moving their report. Use this when you want someone included in the family space but you'll continue managing their profile.

***

## Sending an Invitation

1. Open your dashboard and go to the relevant Couples or Family group.
2. Find the member you want to invite.
3. Click **Invite to Claim** or **Invite to Join**.
4. Enter the invitee's email address.
5. Click **Send invitation**.

They'll receive an email with a unique link that's valid until the expiry date shown on their invitation card.

***

## What Your Invitee Experiences

1. They get an email from Numaura with the invitation.
2. They click the link.
3. If they don't have an account, they're prompted to create one — it's free and takes about a minute.
4. If they already have an account, they log in.
5. They review what's being shared and click **Accept**.
6. For a Claim invitation, the report appears in their dashboard immediately.

## Joining via a Direct Link

Some invitations include a direct join link in the format `/family/join/{token}`. It works the same way — open it, sign in or create an account, and accept.

## Invitation States

| State | What it means |
| -------- | ----------------------------------------------------- |
| Pending | Sent, not yet accepted |
| Accepted | The person has claimed the report or joined the group |
| Expired | The link has passed its validity window |

You can't resend an invitation until the current one expires. Once it does, you can send a new one.

## When Something Goes Wrong

If your invitee runs into an error opening the link, here's what the messages mean:

* **Expired** — the link has timed out. Ask them to let you know so you can send a fresh one.
* **Email mismatch** — they signed in with a different address than the one the invitation was sent to. They should log in with the matching email.
* **Already a member** — they've already accepted, or they're already in the group.
* **Invalid** — the link is malformed or revoked. Contact support if this comes up unexpectedly.

## A Few Things to Know

* You can't resend an active invitation before it expires.
* Invite to Claim can only be used once per report.
* Invitations are tied to the email address you entered when sending. The invitee must use that address to accept.
